THE HARLEY SLACK FUND

In aid of the brave little boy Harley Slack (Lane),
who was struck down with meningitis B (Meningococcal septicaemia) in May 2009.
As a result of this both of Harley's arms and legs were amputated in order to save his life. He was then cared for at the new Royal Manchester Children's hospital where he was untill December 2009.

The Harley Slack Fund has been setup with the sole purpose of raising funds to give him his life back. Harley is going to need new Prosthetics roughly twice a year at the cost of £120,000 a time, due to his growing needs. This does not include any future specialist care he may need.

Now Harley is at home with his newly wed parents (Adam and Sam Lane),
after spending what seems like forever for them in hospital,
although regular visits and more operations in the future are to be expected.

Harley has had his first set of rigid prosthetic limbs from the NHS
which will help him build confidence and strength back in his muscles
and will help him become familiar with wearing prosthetic arms and legs,
although he’ll need more operations in the future before he can walk on his own.
He sees these rigid prosthetic limbs as a kind of game
and as is very pleased about them.
He currently only wears the NHS arms, for a short period at a time
and is still learning how to stand up on the legs.

Harley was really pleased to meet and also get some encouragement
from one of his heros nicknamed “the blade runner”,
also known as the fastest man on NO legs - paralympic legend Oscar Pistorius.
In true Harley style, he refers to Oscar as the boing, boing man.
